At First Independent Bank, we’ve spent more than a century doing work across Minnesota. It’s been more than 100 years of serving the communities we’re living and working in. 100 years of helping local businesses take the most strategic financial steps forward. It's been providing personal banking options to families and helping children set up their first savings accounts. It’s been about partnership with our local communities, helping people discover and do matters most to them.
There are many reasons that people want more money, and those reasons aren’t always self-focused. Many people are motivated to move into a better financial position so that they can be more generous with their time, energy, and financial resources.
The more financially free you are, the more free you are to be generous with your money.
If you have a desire to be generous with your resources, but you’re waiting to give until you hit the Powerball, you’ll probably never give. By giving a little bit at a time, even if you don’t have much to spare, you can develop a habit of generosity.
If you don’t know where you’re going to give, it’s hard to stay motivated. By adopting a cause that means something to you, you’ll find that generosity becomes easier. If you’re giving impulsively or randomly, you rarely get to see the impact that generosity can make. But if your gifts are chosen intentionally, based on a cause that’s important or as a response to volunteer work you did where you were able to identify an actual need in a real-life situation, you can find that giving is more rewarding.
When giving, do enough that you feel it. If you’ve budgeted to give away $100 this month, then give $110. If you’ve set aside $5, then give $6. When you choose to give beyond what you planned to give, you’re building a habit of generosity. It gives you a perspective on charity that will give you a sense of ownership to causes you care about.
At First Independent Bank, we’ve been working in our communities for over a century. Our work has taken on a lot of different forms over the years, but all of it has been about one thing: people. As you look to build better financial habits into your life, we are here to support you each step of the way.
